Description

"This tale is as old as our mountains, as old as our skies, and as old as the sun and the moon...

This tale tells of true love - of two lovers in two very different lands who are forbidden to be together. Since the very beginning of time, he who lived in the sky had loved her for her colorful smile and vibrant demeanor; and she who lived on land had loved him for his true compassion and great generosity. It was a love so unfaltering that they would, day and night, dream of one day seeing one another. When their loneliness became unbearable, he would shed quiet tears of compassion. They will roll down his beautiful face and fall down down below, and reach her in her far away land. She would brush them away with her loving smile, and whisper to the Wind a message, asking that it be brought to him. This was their only way of communication for a long, long time.

The Sun, upon seeing their true love, promised to grant them a meeting whenever they shed tears of longing for each other - by building a small bridge that connected their different worlds. This bridge was made out of the Sun's own rays.

The two lovers were overjoyed, and ran across the bridge into each other's embrace. They gazed at each other, their reflection dancing in the other's eyes and a gentle smile playing on their lips.

However, the Sun became envious of the two's happiness, and his envy corrupted the bridge. The bridge crumbled apart and the two lovers were again thrown apart into their far, far away lands.

Yet the promise the Sun had made could not be broken, for a promise was a promise. So even till this day, whenever the lovers shed their tears, the Sun would be bound by duty to appear and build them the bridge so that they may meet and gaze into each others eyes... for a fleeting moment."

So the next time the sky cries, don't feel sad. Feel happy for the two lovers, for they are able to meet again. Because the Sun, bound by its promise, will surely shine.

I personally love the rain. It rained today, being Hong Kong's rainy season. And, looking out the window (something that's much nicer than looking at medical aptitude tests), I suddenly got this idea, and started doodling. It materialized quite quickly into this colored version.

NOTE: Colour of their eyes - a reflection of the other (from the story)

Thanks to :iconrandomguy0000: for recommending this beautiful song to go with it: [link]
The 'tinkling' bits are like the rain, interspersed with heavy drumming which really captures the mood; and the lyrics speak for itself.
